Draco Malfoy wonders if there will be beautiful things where he is going.
He wonders if there will be rain and falling leaves and the reflections of setting suns against blue lakes. Draco wonders if people smile, if wind blows, and if music plays in the distance, faintly hanging in the air so lightly you can breath it. But most of all he hopes that there will be a pretty boy waiting for him by the beach where they were supposed to go together someday, but somehow never did.
Draco wonders all of this as he lies broken in the mud waiting for the world to swallow him up. There are lights and there are screams and there is blood, so much blood, and dying is just as he'd imagined it.
He closes his eyes and images burn in the back of his eyelids. He sees an empty house, blank white walls, and a cracked porcelain doll he remembers dropping when he was 6. He sees the wintertime when there was nothing but frost across the fields, and it reminds him of his mother who melted away with the snow just as summer came.
He sees his father towering before him, giving him an unamused smirk, but patting his head nonetheless for a job well done.
Wasthatliving?
Then he sees closets and rooms and ties and skin and GREEN GREEN GREEN, and it blinds him even though his eyes are closed. Draco sees everything and nothing except DEATH DEATH DEATH, black and brazen and beautiful in its promise for escape. Because if he lives all he'll ever remember is the way green eyes look when they are dead, and anything seems better than that now.
Draco wonders if there will be beautiful things where he goes; he hopes that there is no snow to remind him of the mother who left with the seasons, or empty houses where happy families were supposed to live. He hopes there is rain and falling leaves and setting suns, people who smile and the music that goes along with it.
But most of all he hopes that there will be a boy waiting for him by the beach, a boy who was pretty in a way that maybe someday he'd be beautiful, and they'd finally swim in the ocean just as he'd promised.
Draco Malfoy wonders if there will be beautiful things where he is going.
And there are.

Inspiration and credit go to
for DV Chapter 15, in which Draco says, "I wonder if there are such beautiful things where I am going?"
In case you didn't get what was going on, Harry died during the final battle and lost. The parts about meeting him at the beach was also inspired by that bit in Beautiful World where Draco and Harry go swimming by the ocean, giving some partial credit to Cinnamon. Well, comment and let me know what you think. I am rather fond of it.

I have fallen off my chair.
And the 'ocean' part--you haven't, by any chance, read At Swim, Two Boys, have you?
But still. BEAUTIFUL. And I just finished UL. So even more beautiful, and my head is up in the clouds. *weeps* You are love.

Gah, I haven't got the chance to read UL yet! Just got back from the Release Party, but I shall elaborate further later!
Oh God, and I'm so happy you liked this!
